Electronic Price Label for Souvenir Shop
What is the project?
This project will create full color digital and Wifi enabled price tags for displays in the HKUST Souvenir Shop so that the price, information, QR codes, and story-telling sideshows can be part of the customer experience. The Smart tags also help to link up its physical shop and online shop.
What is the problem this project is trying to address?
Price tags are static, time-consuming to write and print, and wasteful since they need to be reproduced any time there is new information. They are also limited in the amount of useful information to help consumers to make good purchasing choices.
How does this project support our sustainable smart campus as a living lab vision?
Smart tags reduce manpower by using an automated solution, and save paper through the use of electronic displays. The devices are robust and can be easily repaired and reused, reducing waste and creating a system that can be sustained over time.
Installation will be completed in Spring 2019, and an educational kiosk will be placed outside the Souvenir Shop to introduce the project and provide information on how the devices can be further explored as research opportunities.
